The Department of Correctional Services was established by a resolution of the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Gloucester , adopted on April 23, 2003, at   Woodbury , New Jersey .

The primary purpose of the Department of Correctional Services is to provide for the safety of the citizens of Gloucester County . We provide for the protection of the general public, by removing the repetitive, violent and dangerous offenders from the community and holding them within a secsure detention facility.

Our mission extends to those accused and convicted of criminal acts whose health and safety are also our responsibility. The department is charged with the custody, care, discipline, training and treatment of persons legally committed to our County Correctional facilities.
