Gloucester County Disabled Persons Advisory Commission
Purpose: The Gloucester County Disabled Persons Advisory Commission has been established to better articulate and serve the need of Gloucester County's approximately 50,800 disabled persons. Moreover, it is the purpose of this Commission to coordinate current social service programs as they relate to services for the disabled. The Commission also intends to explore new directions for effective delivery of services to the County's disabled population and in so doing, work toward a more independent and higher quality of life for those disabled persons who choose it. Additionally, the Commission sponsors the: Annual Edward J. Hudac, Jr. Scholarship and Awards Dinner The Awards Dinner is provided in conjunction with the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Department of Educational and Disability Services. Goals: The commission seeks to establish improved services in the area of accessible affordable housing, assistant care, special transportation services, education and job training, employment opportunities, affordable medical care, legal assistance, recreation and social activities. In addition, it is the goal of the Disabled Persons Advisory Commission to work directly with the County's Office of Disability Services to provide insight, relevancy in programs, services, and guidelines and recommendations for the ODS Director and staff. |

Structure: The Disabled Persons Advisory Commission is responsible to the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders and all appointments of commissioners emanate through the Freeholder Board. The Commission is mainly composed of disabled citizens residing in Gloucester County, all of whom serve specified terms of office. In addition, to the Commission members, there is a presiding Freeholder Liaison chosen by the County's Freeholder Director. The Director for the County Office of Disability Services is designated to serve as technical coordinator and assists the Commission with its ongoing organizational activities. The Commission's Executive Committee consists of a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Secretary, all of whom are elected by the Commission to a one year term. |
