And when you see a neglected or abused animal, take action. Report abuse and neglect of animals in your community by contacting your local Animal Control agency or the New Jersey state SPCA. May 7 through May 13: Be Kind to Animals Week American Humane is hosting Be Kind to Animals Week and we want YOU to participate! How can you celebrate? Here are 5 ways: 1-Adopt a pet from a Shelter or Rescue. There are many homeless animals that are waiting for new homes at your local Animal Shelter or in Rescue groups. Opt to adopt! 2-Take care of your pet. Keep your pet's healthy and safe by keeping their vaccinations up-to-date, taking them to the vet regularly and making sure they are always wearing proper identification. 3-Appreciate wildlife. Create an inviting space in your yard and garden. If wildlife comes too close to home, look for ways to coexist or protect your property humanely. 4-Report animal abuse. Don't hesitate to report any signs of animal abuse. Contact your local Animal Control agency or the NJ State SPCA to make a report. 5-Teach the future. We can build a better world for animals by teaching our children the value of kindness.
