The Gloucester County Animal Shelter has two programs that you can join to help save one of the many animals that end up at the shelter.  Volunteers
If you love animals and have a few hours to give, you can become a volunteer at the Shelter or the shelter’s off-site adoption center at the PetsMart stores in Mantua and Turnersville.
Volunteers are needed to exercise the animals for adoption, escort potential pet parents to what animals the shelter has available for adoption and several other minor duties that the shelter needs completed such as Adoption follow-up phone calls and some cleaning and paperwork tasks.
Potential volunteers must be over 18 years of age and can come in to complete a short questionnaire about themselves.
You can give as much or as little time as you can afford. The staff can work a schedule based on whatever amount of time you can give. Foster Parents The shelter is always looking for responsible, animal-loving people who are willing to open up their hearts and homes to special needs animals. Sometimes the shelter doesn’t have the ability to help these animals and looks for caring individuals to give their time and care. Some of the types of animals that may need foster care are sick dogs or cats, mommies with litters of kittens or puppies (especially babies that need to be bottle-fed) or animals that need to be socialized or trained. Volunteers play an important part in helping the shelter find new homes for pets and giving the attention they need while at the shelter. - Old towels and blankets
- Newspapers - bagged or wrapped
- Heating pads
- Paper towels - paper plates 6" round
- Blue pens
- Sticky note pads
- Batteries - AA, AAA
- 1 lb Metal coffee cans
- Duct tape, clear gallon size zipper bag
- 'Frontline', 'Advantage' for dogs and cats
- 8ft by 10ft vinyl tarps ( 10 mil thickness )
