Another area of growth is in the Food Processing sector of the county’s economy. Agriculture has always been a tradition in Gloucester County so it is no surprise there are more than 100 producing farms that have facilitated the organic growth of the food manufacturing industry. The food industry continues to developed and progress making Gloucester County the hub of food processing in the South Jersey region.
Within a 50 mile radius of the county there are more than 600 food manufacturing companies at work. Chelton House salad dressings, UTZ snack foods, and US Food Services are just a few of the national product lines that are manufactured and distributed from Gloucester County to customers all along the eastern seaboard and across the nation.
While the concentration of food manufacturing companies in the county grows so does the focus on education and workforce training. Gloucester County College, an innovative, community-based institution, took proactive steps to create a new Food Science degree program to match the growing demands of the industry. Food processing facilities can choose from a number of available or customized programs designed to train their workforce to ensure the safe, efficient manufacturing and distribution of product. The College also offers food production industry training through a partially reimbursable grant that can be customized to each company’s specific needs. Many local food processing companies take advantage of the attractive training incentives and skilled workforce Gloucester County has to offer.
Transportation and Logisitics
Halfway between New York City and Washington, DC, Gloucester County lies in close proximity to the ports of Philadelphia, Delaware and New York. You can reach 40% of the US population within one day's drive via major highways such as Route 295, the New Jersey Turnpike, Interstate 95. Our Growing Health Care Industry
Another significant growth area is healthcare. In the last several years, the infrastructure of the healthcare sector in the county has tripled. Since 2008, at least $160 million in improvements and new facilities have been completed by the health care providers within the county. The Healthcare explosion Gloucester County has experienced over the last three years has created over 900 new jobs and is projected to create an additional 1,900 jobs by 2016.

Gloucester County is positioned for job growth in many key industry sectors and is creating an environment for technology to flourish. The ultimate goal is to attract high-paying jobs to South Jersey and to keep tech-savvy college graduates in the region. High-tech, progressive educational offerings are one of the major keys to achieving this objective.
Located in one of the nation’s largest biotechnology and pharmaceutical clusters, Gloucester County is keeping pace with the industrial and technology boom of the past two decades. The region possesses some of the largest industries on the East Coast with modern plants employing thousands, such as ExxonMobil Research and Engineering, K-Tron International, Inc., Omega Engineering, Metrologic Instruments, Inc., and NuStar Energy.
One of Gloucester County’s newest editions is the South Jersey Technology Park @ Rowan University. The Tech Park provides competitively priced class “A” facilities for start-up and established companies that bring innovative technologies to the marketplace and serves as a home for technology-focused researchers, inventors, entrepreneurs, professors and students. The 188-acre site has a building capacity of approximately 1.5 million square feet. The recently completed Samuel H. Jones Innovation Center is the first of 25 planned buildings and houses a variety of cutting edge companies poised for growth in their respective industries.
