Free Career Resource Day February 10th

 

(Sewell, NJ) – Gloucester County will offer free skill strengthening career workshop sessions at Gloucester County College, Tanyard Road in Sewell beginning at 8:30 AM on Friday, February 3, 2012.

This free event, sponsored by the Gloucester County Freeholder Board and the Workforce Investment Board (WIB), is designed to help those seeking to enter the job market or looking to improve their skills to aid in future employment advancement.  The event is free, but registration is required.

 "We want to give our residents every advantage in gaining their next job or promotion," said Freeholder Director Robert Damminger.  “The strategies and skills involved with resumes writing, interviews and using social media are different today than they were just a few years ago. These workshops are designed to help people with the professional and personal issues that go with finding new employment,” Freeholder Director Damminger said.

Freeholder Director Damminger said that the methods and tools that people use to look for employment and employees is constantly evolving and the free workshop sessions can help people learn how to 'put their best foot forward'.

The series of informative workshops have been developed to offer participants a better understanding of résumé writing, perfecting job interview skills, using social media to find employment, seeking career options and managing stress in uncertain times. All of the sessions will be conducted by professionals representing the Gloucester County Division of Social Services, Underwood-Memorial Hospital, Gloucester County College and the Gloucester County One-Stop Career Center.

The February 3rd  event, consisting of comprehensive and breakout sessions, will begin at 8:30 AM and will conclude by 3:30PM. Participants may choose to register for any or all of the five one hour workshops which have been scheduled in either the college’s Fine Arts Center or in the College Center room 200. Freeholder Heather Simmons said, “The Freeholder Board works closely with the WIB to help provide resources and opportunities to help those in our community find work or improve their job skills to help them enter or advance further in the workforce. Additionally, during times such as these, it’s important to help people strengthen their personal confidence while giving them the tools to become more successful.”   Simmons is the liaison to the Department of Economic Development. 

This workshop event is timed to coordinate with a Gloucester County sponsored Career Resource Day scheduled to at the College a week later on Friday, February 10 from 9AM until 1PM where attendees can talk with a large number regional employers to find out about and discuss job opportunities, learn about social support services and talk with career counselors.
