Volunteers Needed

 (West Deptford, NJ) – Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Lyman Barnes put out the call for volunteers today to assist in serving meals at the Franklinville Nutrition Site and delivering meals to the homebound out of the Thorofare Fire Hall.

 Freeholder Director Damminger said that volunteers are needed in the Franklinville Community Center from 9 am to 1 pm to help put together and serve meals for about 40 seniors, and volunteers are needed in the Thorofare Fire Hall from 9 am to 12 pm to deliver meals in West Deptford, National Park, Westville and Deptford areas by  volunteer drivers.  Drivers are reimbursed for their gas.

 Director Damminger said, “Giving a few hours a week of your time makes a difference in the lives of many.  Both the county’s Serv-A-Tray program and nutrition sites provide nutritious meals that mean so much to those who receive them.”

 The Gloucester County Division of Senior Services operates the Gloucester County Serv-A-Tray program that provides hot, nutritious noon time meals to eligible county residents delivered Monday through Friday and provides frozen meals for the weekends and holidays.  Over 1,700 meals are prepared and delivered each week.

 “The county could not operate this program without our volunteers and any time that someone can give will be appreciated by the community,” said Freeholder Lyman Barnes, liaison to Senior Services.  “Anyone who can spare an hour or two a day should consider becoming a nutrition site or Serv-A-Tray volunteer,” said Barnes. 

 The Franklinville Nutrition Site is located at the Franklin Community Center on Coles Mill Road and the Thorofare Nutrition site is located at Thorofare Fire Hall, in West Deptford.  Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday.
