Damminger (856-853-3395) or Freeholder Heather Simmons (856-853-3378) Construction to start on Buck Road in Elk & Franklin Townships A new solar traffic signal will be added at Clayton Road (Elk, NJ) – Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Heather Simmons announced today that the County will be resurfacing Buck Road (CR553) from the Salem County line to Thornwood Drive in the Townships of Elk and Franklin. The resurfacing project is approximately 2 ½ miles long. Construction is anticipated to start on or about July 9, 2012 with a detour to be implemented for a portion of the work. The project consists of the mill and overlay of the existing roadway surface with 2 ½” of hot mix asphalt surface course, new reflective traffic striping, signing, replacement of existing guiderail and raised pavement markers. The project will also include the rehabilitation of the existing Bridge parapets and bridge deck, Buck Road (CR553) over Reed Branch near Garrison Lake. Also included in the project is the construction of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Clayton Road (CR608). This new traffic signal and the existing signal at Elk Road (CR538) with Buck Road will be fitted with solar panels. The initial bridge work will involve a one way detour expected on July 9th as bridge crews work on the bridge approaches and decking near Garrison Lake. This bridge work will be done in stages, half at a time, with southbound traffic will be detoured around the bridge work utilizing the posted route of Aura-Willow Grove Road and Monroeville Road, CR604. Northbound through traffic will be permitted to continue through the construction zone. Residents will continue to access to their driveways during the construction. The contractor is South State Inc. out of Bridgeton NJ. The $1.4 million project is federally funded. -30- |
