Free Career Workshops will teach resume tips, how to use social media and how to interview for a job – All leading lead up to Summer Career Resource Event on August 20

(Sewell, NJ) – Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Heather Simmons announced that two free Career Workshops will be held in August to help residents improve their marketability to employers.  The Workshops will help prepare residents for the Summer Career Resource Event on August 20 where employers will be taking resumes, applications and conducting on-site pre-interviews. 

The first Workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 5:00 pm or Thursday, August 8, 9:00 am, and will teach participants how to use social media in their job search and improve their resume writing and interviewing skills.

The second Workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 5:00 pm or Thursday, August 15, 9:00 am, where mock interviews will be performed so participants can practice and learn the do’s and don’ts of interviewing.

“We are seeing signs that the job market starting to turn around, but it is very competitive and want to give our residents every advantage in getting their next job or promotion,” said Freeholder Director Robert Damminger.  “The strategies and skills involved with resume writing, interviews and using social media are constantly evolving,” Damminger said.

Freeholder Heather Simmons, liaison to the Department of Economic Development said that the Workshops will lead up to the August 20 Career Resource Event that will be held from 9 am to 12 noon at the College Center Building at Gloucester County College. 

“Residents should dress for success, have plenty of copies of their resume’ on hand and be prepared to interview on-site at the free Career Resource Event,” said Simmons.  “The event is a showcase of area employers who are accepting resumes for current and future positions.   In the past year 80 residents have gained employment as a result of attending one of our Career Resource Events.”

Simmons said that the response the event garners from the businesses that recruit at the Career Resource Event is always positive. 

Karen Schneider of Wedgewood Pharmacy, one of the largest compounding pharmacies in the United States, located in Swedesboro, is once again participating in the Career Resource Event.  “The event is well run and we are always pleased with the caliber of participants,” said Schneider.
