(Clayton, NJ) – The Gloucester County Animal Shelter will hold their annual Open House on Saturday, October 5, from 11 am to 4 pm. The celebration includes refreshments, live music, balloons, a face painter for kids and a Pet Costume Parade will be held at 3 pm. Elwood, one of the ‘Worlds Ugliest Dogs’ will also be at the event for photos. The rain or shine event is free and open to the public.
Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “The Gloucester County Animal Shelter is an amazing place where the staff and volunteers work hard to find homes for stray and unwanted animals. They teach students all year about animal care and the responsibilities that come with having a pet and they have great love and respect for our community.”
Freeholder Adam J. Taliaferro, liaison to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter, said that since January 1, 2013 the Gloucester County Animal Shelter has adopted 268 dogs, 361 cats and 58 other small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.)
If you are considering adopting a new pet, the Open House is a great opportunity for residents to check out our shelter and visit some of the animals that are ready to be adopted.” Taliaferro said.
Everyone is invited to the Animal Shelter Open House. Various ‘rescue’ groups will have information and there will be information about the shelter, adoption, volunteer opportunities and how to become a foster ‘parent’ to a pet.
All dogs and cats adopted from the GCAS include spay/neuter and shots. Adoption costs for dogs at the Gloucester County Animal Shelter is $125, cats are $95. There is a discounted fee for senior citizens and veterans of $35.
The Gloucester County Animal Shelter promotes humane care and treatment of all animals; seeks responsible, loving homes for animals; reduces pet overpopulation by encouraging people to spay and neuter their pets; provides lost and found services by reuniting pets with their families; and protects animals from cruelty and neglect.
Kittens, cats, puppies and dogs, the Gloucester County Animal Shelter also has rabbits, guinea pigs, iguanas and other small animals for adoption.
