Fan Distribution for Seniors will take place on June 15th

(Woodbury, NJ) -Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Deputy Director Warren S. Wallace announced today that the County's annual "Keep Cool" Fan Distribution for Senior Citizens will take place on Tuesday, June 15, 2011 in two locations.

Freeholder Director Damminger said, "We want our seniors to know there is relief from the heat this summer and we want them to be safe and not jeopardize their health. More than 2,250 fans have been distributed through the county's Division of Senior Services since we began this program in 2000 and they have helped our older residents keep cool when the weather is blistering."

Freeholder Deputy Director Warren S. Wallace said that the county wants to make sure that older residents do not forgo their health in the summer heat by forgoing using air conditioners and fans because of their utility bills.

"The elderly is one of the most vulnerable groups for health problems when the weather turns hot," said Deputy Director Wallace, liaison to the Department of Health and Senior Services.

"In addition to the fans, if the weather gets too hot, seniors can always go to one of the county's designated air-conditioned cooling centers which include the six nutrition sites, the county libraries and the Shady Lane Nursing Home," said Freeholder Liaison Warren Wallace.

Gloucester County's 'Keep Cool' Fan Distribution will take place on Wednesday, June 15th from 10:00am to 11:00am at the Glassboro Senior Center located at 152 S. Delsea Drive in Glassboro and at Gloucester County Senior Services Offices at Budd Boulevard located at 115 Budd Blvd. in West Deptford from - 1:00pm to 2:30pm.

Due to the limited amount of fans and under the guidelines set forth by the Older Americans Act, priority will be given to seniors 60 and above with low income or possessing a PAAD (Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled) or Medicaid card. For more information, please call the Division of Senior Services at (856)384-6900.
