Statement from Gloucester County Freeholders regarding support of Amazon H2Q pitch

(Woodbury, NJ) -- Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Heather Simmons, Liaison to Economic Development said today that Gloucester County will be submitting a proposal to Amazon for the construction of their new headquarters.

Damminger and Simmons said, "The Gloucester County Administration and Office of Economic Development is working closely with the Gloucester County Department of Planning, Delaware River Valley Planning Commission, the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce, Rowan College at Gloucester County, Rowan University and other area agencies to compile the necessary information to support the county's submission.

We believe that Gloucester County meets not only the technical components that the company requires with regard to logistics, demographics and geographic locations, but that our quality of life, skilled workforce, available land to build homes, excellent educational systems and stable taxes and affordable cost of living are all positives that Amazon would see as a benefit.

Gloucester County is unique in many ways, and some of those ways are exactly what Amazon is looking for as described in the request for proposals.

Gloucester County is the fastest growing county in the third largest metropolitan region in the Northeast.

Gloucester County is centered in the Philadelphia metro region that encompasses the sixth largest workforce (of just over 3 million), including highly skilled talent in key industries: life sciences, energy and manufacturing, technology, financial services, and more.

We are first in Millennial growth. In Gloucester County and the region, millennials are growing at a faster rate than in any of the nation’s 30 largest cities.

We are home to outstanding public school systems, award-winning private schools, and have some of the finest colleges and universities in the nation.

In Gloucester County, technology firms can tap into the expertise of Rowan faculty with research competencies in biotechnology, sustainability, infrastructure, materials, information technology and many other areas by partnering with the Rowan University and the South Jersey Technology Park.

For these and many other reasons the county will be working to submit its proposal for the second company headquarters of Amazon. We understand this is a highly competitive process and we plan to put our best foot forward in our pitch to why Amazon should call H2Q home."
