Gloucester County couple celebrates 70th wedding anniversary

(Pitman, NJ) – Freeholder Heather Simmons presented a proclamation to Carl and Elva Ahrens of Pitman on Sunday, Oct. 22 at United Methodist Communities to honor their 70th wedding anniversary. On October 25, 1947, Carl and Elva Ahrens were married and they resided in Pitman, where Elva worked and retired as Secretary for the Guidance Department at Pitman High School. Carl worked and retired from Hercules Power Company in Gibbstown.

Carl and Elva met when they were classmates at Swedesboro High School. After graduation, Carl went to serve in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and Elva worked for the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Carl and Elva have enjoyed 70 dedicated years together and share their love and joy with their two sons, Robert and Gary and their families, including five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
