(Woodbury, NJ) - Gloucester County Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney and Freeholder Frank DiMarco, liaison to the County Department of Correctional Services announced today that effective May 2, 2005, Darryl G. Johnson of Erial will become the Warden of the county's jail.

Johnson, who served as Captain since 2002 at the Camden County Jail where he was responsible for the daily supervision of the operations, correction officers and support staff, will be responsible for the same operations at Gloucester County's Jail.

"We feel very fortunate that we were able to attract Mr. Johnson to serve as our Warden," said Freeholder Director Sweeney. "He has extensive experience in the day-to-day operations of a county jail and an impeccable record of service. He is well respected both inside the world of Corrections and outside, which is exactly what we were looking for in a Warden. He will make a valued addition to our jail administration," said Sweeney.

Freeholder Frank DiMarco, liaison to the Department of Correctional Services, said, "Mr. Johnson comes to us with years of administrative experience in county corrections and that will be a big asset to our facility." DiMarco said, "We feel that our new Director, Bob Balicki, has done an outstanding job since he was hired at the start of the year, and now with Mr. Johnson on board to run the day-to-day operations, that we have the team in place to continue to move our correctional facility in a positive direction."

In addition to Johnson's service as Captain of the Camden County Department of Corrections since 2002, he has also served as Administrative Captain & Lieutenant of that facility from 1996 to 2001 and as Sergeant there from 1990 to 1996.
