Paving projects slated for Deptford, Monroe and Franklin Townships next week
(Deptford township, NJ) Starting on or about Tuesday, March 19, the Gloucester County Highway Department will be beginning the first of the 2019 Highway Overlay Program projects with the resurfacing of Caufield Avenue (CR 645) in Deptford Township. After the completion of the Caufield Avenue project, work will begin on Thursday, March 21 to resurface CR 659 Malaga Road in Monroe and Franklin Townships.
Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, "Thanks to the success of the 2018 Highway Overlay Program, paving a record of forty-one miles of roadway, the Gloucester County Highway Department will be continuing in their efforts to keep our roadways safe and driver-friendly. The safety of our residents on the roads is a top priority."
Freeholder Heather Simmons said, “As long as the weather stays dry and above freezing for a few days we can start these paving projects. These roads will also be updated so that Public Works can address any inlet grates not meeting NJDOT standards, inlet openings not meeting NJ Storm Water Management Guidelines, concrete sidewalk ramps that do not meet ADA standards, and the replacement of traffic striping.” Simmons is the Freeholder liaison to the Department of Public Works.
The work on Caufield Avenue in Deptford Township is anticipated to be a two-day project, weather permitting, taking place from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Construction will take place from Clements Bridge Road (C.R. 544) to Turkey Hill Road, approximately 1.05 miles.
The construction on CR 659 Malaga Road in Monroe and Franklin Townships is anticipated to also take two days of work, weather permitting. Work will begin at 6 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. both days. Construction will be taking place from Blue Bell Road (C.R. 633) to Tuckahoe Road (C.R. 557), approximately 1.57 miles.
During construction on both projects, the roadways will be detoured but will allow traffic to flow in one direction throughout the length of the project. The detour will be posted by the contractor. Residents will have access to their driveways at all times.
