COUNTY AND VETERANS ADVISORY BOARD TO HOST COMBINED INFORMATIONAL EVENT THIS SATURDAY This year's Veterans Homecoming & Legislative Breakfast will be one full-spectrum event
(Woodbury, NJ) - Gloucester County Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney and Freeholder Bill Krebs, liaison to the Office of Veterans Affairs, announced today that the County and the Veterans Advisory Committee have combined their annual informational events and will host the Veterans Homecoming and Legislative Breakfast together this year.
The event is scheduled for this Saturday, July 23rd at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology on Tanyard Road in Sewell from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The information tables will be open from 9 am until 10 am (Please fast for Blood Sugar and Cholesterol screenings). Then the discussion with the public officials will be in the Theater from approximately 10:15am until 11:30am, and tables will reopen until 1:30pm. Veterans and their families are invited to attend this free-of-cost event.
Freeholder Director Sweeney said, "By combining these two events we will be able to offer our veterans community an entire perspective on what is happening at all levels of government with regards to their benefits, health, and other issues of importance." Sweeney said, "Veterans and their families can come in, get health screenings, information on other topics and ask their legislators questions regarding state issues at this event. It is one-stop shopping for information."
Sweeney said, "We have a lot to offer our veterans and their families and we want them to know about it and utilize the services - they've earned them.
For the Legislative forum, Freeholder Director Sweeney, who also is the Senator for the 3rd District will be in attendance, Assemblyman John Burzichelli, Assemblyman Doug Fisher, and Assemblyman Dave Mayer will also attend. In addition, Barbara Wallace and Thelma Calaff of Senator Corzine's staff will represent Senator Corzine and Congressman LoBiondo will also be represented by an aide.
"This question and answer type forum that has been presented by the Veterans Advisory Committee for years is a wonderful way for our veterans to hear from their representatives directly and to ask questions and get answers on veterans legislation and all types of legislative initiatives that affect them," said Freeholder Director/Senator Sweeney.
Freeholder Bill Krebs said, "We have been doing so much more outreach to our veterans community in recent years, we collectively decided it was more efficient to combine these two great events and try and give our veterans more in one day." Krebs said that in addition from the county's Office of Veterans Affairs going from a part-time office to a full-time operation, the office participates in many outreach events throughout the year and reach more veterans than in the past.
"Now that our new county store will be coming on line soon, it will be another location that our veterans can receive information and services ranging from health screenings to benefit information," said Krebs.
