Auntie Anne’s founder speaks at 28th annual Mayor’s Prayer breakfast
(Deptford, NJ) - Freeholders Jim Jefferson and Jim Lavender attended the 28th Annual Gloucester County Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast at Auletto Caterer’s in Deptford this past December.
Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “Hundreds of community, business, and government leaders gathered together for the annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast to listen to this year’s speaker discuss the trials she encountered and how her faith guided her through a period of struggle.”
This year’s breakfast welcomed guest speaker Anne Beiler, founder of Auntie Anne’s Inc., the world’s largest hand-rolled soft pretzel franchise.
Freeholder Jim Jefferson, Liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services, said, “Anne Beiler is an example of finding purpose through pain: creating Auntie Anne’s pretzels from just a small concession stand in 1988 at a busy farmers’ market in Downingtown, Pennsylvania as a way to support her husband in his vision to help others after facing tragedy within her family.”
Freeholder Jim Lavender said, “It was heartening to join all of our mayors and leaders during the holiday season as we all share a vision for improving our communities. Public service is a vocation that transcends politics and this event offered us time together to listen and learn so we can continue to bring positive change to our residents’ lives.”
In 2005, Anne sold Auntie Anne’s to travel and speak to audiences on leadership, purpose, and the power of confession.
