Job Fair Slated on February 1st for Powell Electronics

The County is Working to help recruit employees for its newest employer - Powell Electronics - with a focus on displaced General Mills employees

(Logan Twp., NJ)- Gloucester County Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney and Freeholder Joseph A. Brigandi, Jr. announced today that a Job Fair will be held  on February 1, from 10 am to 2 pm at the new site of Powell Electronics, 200 Commodore Drive in Logan Township. 

"We were all upset that General Mills will be closing down its operations here, but on the positive side, Powell Electronics is moving its global headquarters to the same center," said Freeholder Director Sweeney. 

"We have an opportunity to help the General Mills employees who may be displaced to get a new job in the same location.  I know it has got to be tough on the General Mills employees and their families, but Gloucester County has an aggressive workforce development program and we want to see our residents with good paying jobs," said Sweeney.  "Powell Electronics expects to add 150 new jobs here within three years and Gloucester County is going to continue to recruit and attract quality industry and business to provide jobs for our residents," the Freeholder Director stated.

Powell Electronics is moving from their South Island Avenue location near the Philadelphia Airport and selected Gloucester County has their new Global Headquarters.  They are consolidating their locations in California, Florida and Pennsylvania to this new Gloucester County location.

"We are actively looking to help those being laid-off from General Mills get re-hired at Powell Electronics.  We see an opportunity for a new company moving here in need of employees, Powell is looking to hire assemblers, warehouse staff, quality control staff and expediters," said Brigandi.  Freeholder Brigandi said that Powell Electronics has signed their lease and anticipate moving into the Logan Township location in March.

Freeholder Joseph A. Brigandi, Jr., liaison to the County's Department of Economic Development explained that the Job Fair is being coordinated through the One Stop Center.  "The One Stop Center is a tremendous resource for Gloucester County residents and businesses.  They provide employment services in an efficient and user friendly manner and help people find employment and help businesses find employees.  They provide a seamless flow of services"
