Relief from Heat Offered
(Woodbury, NJ) – Gloucester County Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney and Freeholder Helene M. Reed announced today that Gloucester County’s senior residents who may be struggling with the excessive heat are able to visit Shady Lane Nursing Home or contact the Gloucester County Office of Senior Services for a listing of air-conditioned centers nearest their homes.
“Senior citizens are extremely vulnerable in this excessive heat. We invite them to come to our beautiful new Shady Lane Nursing Home to spend a day in the air conditioning and get some relief,” said Freeholder Director Sweeney. “There is a beautiful activities room in this facility for them to enjoy at Shady Lane, and if they prefer to stay closer to home, our Senior Services Office can help direct them to a cool location in their own community,” Sweeney said.
Shady Lane Nursing Home is located on County House Road in Clarksboro. For information about spending the day during the heat wave please call 423-0020. For the Division of Senior Services, residents can contact 232-4646.
Freeholder Helene Reed noted that the Division of Senior Services still has fans available to help seniors circulate the air in their homes.
“Seniors that do not have air conditioning should get a fan to circulate the air in their homes. We recommend that they stay in a cool, air-conditioned place during this excessive heat during the daytime, but the fans will help offer some relief during the night,” Reed said. Reed is the liaison to the County’s Department of Health and Senior Services.
Seniors who need more information can call the Division of Senior Services at (856)232-4646.
Freeholder Director Sweeney and Freeholder Reed also noted that residents who do not have air conditioning in their home should take advantage of any air-conditioned shelters such as the County’s Libraries, movies, malls, or other publicly accessible buildings during the hottest hours of the day
