County Store’s 1st Year Yields Record Numbers Over 7,500 Passports and 1,100 County ID’s issued at Mall location

(Deptford, NJ) – The Gloucester County Store at the Deptford Mall, a joint initiative that started just over a year ago by the Freeholder Board and the County Clerk’s Office, has yielded more passport applications in its first year opened than ever before noted in the Courthouse in Woodbury.

“The County Store at the Mall is an overwhelming success,” stated Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney.

From August 1, 2005 to July 31, 2006, the County Store issued 7,544 Passports compared to 1,371 issued at the Courthouse and Clerk’s satellite locations during the same time period.  In 2004, the year prior to the County Store’s opening; the Clerk’s Office issued a total of 3,987 passports.

“It’s exciting that we have overwhelming surpassed our original projections of people who would come into the County Store to utilize its convenient location, parking and hours,” said Freeholder Director Sweeney.  “I often hear from constituents about how much they appreciate having a place to get their passports and conduct other business after work and on the weekends,” stated Sweeney.

County Clerk James Hogan said he was confident the store would be well received by residents, but didn’t predict the volume of its popularity.

“Based upon our previous numbers and the trends of people using our services I believed we would do about 1,500 more passports a year when we opened up this County Store.  I am very pleased that we have exceeded our projections by such a large number and that people are so satisfied with the service they receive here,” said Clerk Hogan.

County Store 1st Year Success

The County Store averages 628 Passport applications a month.  Prior to the County Store opening, the Courthouse and Satellite locations averaged 370 applications per month.
This past March the County Store experienced 1,042 Passport applications, the highest ever.

Hogan noted that while people getting their passports, DD-214’s and ID cards at the County Store is on the rise, other Clerk’s services like registering a Trade Name, Notary Services, and other services associated with commerce have largely remained stable at the Courthouse in Woodbury.

“The County Store truly brings governmental services and information to the people,” said Freeholder Joseph Brigandi Jr., liaison to the Clerk’s Office.  Brigandi said, “The passport services are extremely popular, and people taking advantage of many services offered at the store, including veterans services, small business counseling, senior and health services, and Gloucester County College’s participation brings in a lot of residents.”

The Freeholders and the Clerk noted that fees generated from Passports and other Clerk’s Services at the County Store totaled $343,525 during the first year of operation.  This revenue covered all of the direct costs of the County Store.
