County's Produce Vouchers for Seniors Program Starts on June 21
(Woodbury, NJ) -Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney and Freeholder Jean DuBois announced today that the county will offer free $20 vouchers to income eligible seniors to buy fresh produce at designated local farmers markets.
Director Sweeney said, "This voucher program is important because it allows our seniors to get the fresh fruits and vegetables they need to stay healthy without putting extra strain on their resources."
"We are grateful to the farmers markets who accept the vouchers throughout the county so that our seniors can enjoy the Jersey produce. We live in the heart of a fruit and vegetable producing region and we should all have the ability to enjoy our bounty," Sweeney said.
Freeholder Jean DuBois said, "The County will distribute 3,000 vouchers to help our seniors purchase produce from our local farms." Freeholder DuBois is the liaison to the County's Department of Health and Senior Services. "Having your health is the most important thing and it is easier to achieve a healthy lifestyle when there is access to healthy food," DuBois stated.
Through the federally funded program two $10 vouchers are available to county residents who are 60 years of age and older and have an annual income less then $20,036 for a single person household and less then $26,955 for two.
