County Offering Smoke Detectors & Batteries
(Clayton, NJ) - The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced today that the Gloucester County Fire Marshal's Office has 240 smoke detectors and 10 smoke detectors for the hearing impaired available for Gloucester County citizens.
"Since we just changed the clocks it is a good time for residents to make sure they change the batteries in their smoke detectors so that everything is in working order. If a resident needs a smoke detector or a battery they can call the County Fire Marshall's Office and we will make arrangements for them to receive one," said Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney.
Freeholder Liaison to Emergency Response, Jean DuBois, expressed her gratitude to Gloucester County's partner in the County's fire prevention program, Atlantic City Electric, who donated the smoke detectors to the county.
"Smoke detectors save lives. I understand that in this economy everyone is looking to make ends meet, but we don't want our residents to scrimp on safety. If someone needs a battery or a smoke detector they are available at no cost," Freeholder DuBois said.
Both the smoke detectors and the batteries will be dispersed on an as needed basis for as long as supplies last. Please call 307-7100 for more details and to make arrangements.
