Gloucester County Residents Encouraged to Get a Flu Shot
Freeholders Announce 36 Flu Shot Clinics Scheduled
(Woodbury, NJ) – Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Deputy Director Warren S. Wallace announced the schedule for the County’s 2011 Flu shot clinic program today.
Damminger and Wallace said that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that every person over the age of 6 months* receive a flu shot as the first and best way to protect against influenza.
“Our Health Department has scheduled 36 flu shot clinics, with no out of pocket cost, to keep families healthy this flu season. Clinics are scheduled for everyone’s convenience, on weekends, during the evenings, there are clinics specifically for children, and special drive-thru clinics so seniors and the physically disabled don’t have to get out of their vehicles,” said Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger.
Damminger said, “In today’s economy, getting a flu shot from the county can save your family a lot of money from lost days at work or school, co-pays or medications. Our flu clinics run like clock-work and it is worth taking the time to get the vaccine.”
There is at least one clinic scheduled in each municipality within the county and residents can attend any location they choose. There is no out of pocket cost for the flu vaccine provided by Gloucester County, but proof of residency is required.
Freeholder Deputy Director Warren S. Wallace, liaison to the Department of Health said that the county’s program will begin on Saturday, October 8, with a drive thru specifically designed for the physically disabled.
“Our nurses and staff are professional and do their best to accommodate everyone. We have two drive-thru clinics scheduled because it is harder for some of our senior and disabled residents to park, go inside or wait in line. This way we get them their shots and they don’t even leave their car,” Deputy Director Warren Wallace stated.
Deputy Director Warren Wallace said that the county will operate a flu-hotline again this year. Residents with questions about the flu shot program should call (856) 218-4141.
Gloucester County administered 17,500 shots in 2010 and is prepared to administer at least that many again in 2011.
According to the CDC, even though the vaccine formulation did not change from last year, individuals still should be vaccinated again this year to raise your immune levels against the three viruses that research indicates are likely to circulate again this season. *See Influenza Program Guidelines for who should receive a flu shot.
