Adam J. Taliaferro

Freeholder Adam J. Taliaferro is serving his first term on the Board of Chosen Freeholders of Gloucester County and was elected in November 2011. Freeholder Taliaferro oversees the Department  of Parks and Land Preservation. His responsibilities as Liaison to this Department include: Parks & Recreation; Parks & Recreation Advisory Council; Land Preservation; Rutgers Cooperative Extension Services; Utilities Authority; Pitman Golf Course; Pitman Golf Course Advisory Council; Agriculture Development Board; Animal Shelter; and the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee.

Adam resides in Woolwich Township with his wife.  He is employed with Bristol Myers Squibb. Adam is the founding board member of the Adam Taliaferro Foundation, which provides emotional, financial and educational support to student-athletes who suffer catastrophic head or spinal injuries.

Adam Taliaferro was a Penn State football player who suffered a spinal-cord injury after tackling an opponent headfirst during his freshman year. He was told that he had only a small chance of ever walking again due to the injury, but was able to overcome his paralysis and walked out of Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in just four months.  He graduated from Penn State, on time, in 2005, and is a 2008 graduate of Rutgers School of Law – Camden. And most recently was elected to the Penn State Board of Trustees in 2012.

Adam has received has received many awards, including the 2009 Philadelphia Sports Writers Humanitarian Award and Bank of America's Neighborhood Excellence Initiative Award. He was also the honorary chairman for the 2002 Special Olympics Summer Games.
